I hope you are all having a great week! I cannot believe we are already to our Fall Break! I wanted to give each of you an update on what is currently going on in our classroom.
*I cannot even begin to tell each of you how proud I am of your kiddos! They all worked so hard during our very long CogAT and ITBS testing. I was so impressed each and every day!
*Many of you may have noticed that I have not assigned math homework in a couple of weeks. Because we have been testing, I wanted to give my students a little break. After talking with my third grade teammates and reading some current research, we have decided to no longer assign nightly math homework. Research has found that homework does not truly help students the way we once though it did. I will continue to assign optional math homework each night. Students who complete that homework will receive a reward. I will be going over my reward policy with students once we get back from Fall Break. I will still expect students to read 20 minutes each night and study spelling words throughout the week.
*Conference week is right around the corner (October 16-20). Please look for an email containing a Sign Up Genius in the next couple of weeks.
*We began our unit on multiplication today! Fall Break is a great time to practice multiplication facts with your child. The facts students should know are from 0-10. Here are some great resources for online games, math fact practice, and printable flash cards:
As always, if you need anything, please let me know! If you are traveling during Fall Break, I wish you safe travels. I hope everyone has a nice break and enjoys some quality family time! Thank you for all your support this year!
